1945 — Lt A CHOWNE won a Victoria Cross for his gallantry at DAGUA, New Guinea, when he knocked out two Japanese machine-guns and paved the way for the 6th Division’s advance on WEWAK. The award was made posthumously.  Chowne had previously been awarded a Military Medal.
