Plans and maintenance for the Memorial
After more than 70 years of service as a spiritual icon to the memory of the Anzacs and as a purpose built returned services support and medical aid centre, the Anzac Memorial is receiving some timely care and attention to ensure it maintains its important role and meaning in our community well into the 21st Century.
With an ever increasing number of visitors to the Memorial and growing educational interest in the Anzacs this initiative is a welcome commitment by the Trustees of the Memorial.
The NSW Government has generously provided funds for these works.
Between 2004 and 2009 the Memorial building is undergoing a program of repair, refurbishment and adaptation work to overcome inherent water leakage problems within the building fabric; to upgrade essential services; to review basic safety amenities, access and exhibition requirements; to clean and stabilize important sculptural elements; and protect the building from the weather. The completion of this program in 2009 will coincide with the 75th anniversary of the Memorial.
