Be transported by a short film into Sister Mary 'Margorie' Marr's autograph book. Sr Marr collected the signatures, poetry and musings of the soldiers who returned to Australia to recover from the trauma of Gallipoli.
Following the film, Devoted Service then immerses the audience in four different experiences of war. The piece features actual words and personal accounts from the diaries and letters of three nurses and a matron:Clementina Marshall, Muriel Wakeford, Alice Cashin and Evelyn Wright. Witness how, from the moment the last ribbon connecting them to Sydney breaks, through to the end and aftermath of the war in 1918/19, the courage and conviction of these women endures.
At times humorous and always heartbreakingly human, this new, live performance piece, created and produced by the Anzac Memorial, is a catalyst for further exploration.
At the conclusion of the piece, Anzac Memorial Guides will lead the audience to the Centenary Exhibition to further explore the nurses’ personal objects on display.
