1942 — HMAS SHROPSHIRE and HMAS ARUNTA were engaged in the Battle of SURIGAO STRAIT (Philippines). 2 Japanese Navy battleships and 3 destroyers were sunk and 3 destroyers damaged. 1 US destroyer was damaged

1942 — Pte P GRATWICK won a Victoria Cross for his heroism during the Battle of El Alamein

1950 —  Battle of KUJIN / Broken Bridge, Korea. A battle fought mainly in darkness, across a river where enemy forces had destroyed a bridge. Infantry soldiers and tanks were used by both sides. Eight Australians were killed and 22 wounded in  the action
