The 1914-15 Star was awarded to members of the British and Imperial forces who served between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915. The medal is a four pointed star, with a crown on the upwards point of the star. The front of the medal features two crossed swords and a wreath of oak leaves with the Royal cypher of King George V, GV, at the bottom of the wreath. At the centre of the wreath lies a scroll that reads “1914-15”. The soldier’s name, service number and regiment were engraved on the back of the medal. The medal was instituted in December 1918. Men and officers who qualified for the earlier 1914 Star were not eligible for the 1914-15 Star. Recipients of the 1914-15 Star automatically qualified for the British War Medal 1914-20 and the Victory Medal 1914-1919.
