Conditions of Entry

Entry to the Memorial is free. 

Information is available from the Memorial Reception Desk on the ground floor. Portable stools are available to borrow – just ask a member of staff. 

The following are Conditions of Entry to the Memorial building. Failure to comply may result in refusal of entry or eviction from the Memorial premises.

 

While in the Anzac Memorial you are requested to:

  • Treat Memorial staff and other members of the public with respect, and to not behave in a manner that is disruptive, disrespectful or damaging (physically or verbally)
  • Accept that entry is at your own risk, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, the Memorial is not responsible for any loss, damage, harm or injury arising from your entry to the premises.
  • Obey all signs and notices, and any reasonable direction given by Memorial staff or Memorial security officers.
  • Cloak baggage or receptacles larger than A3 paper size, in the self-service lockers provided.
  • Ensure your clothing, general conduct, and behaviour (whether through language, gestures, or otherwise) is always respectful. Footwear must always be worn.
  • Ensure children under the age of 12 years are accompanied by an adult and are always actively supervised. Please keep your strollers with you at all times.
  • Avoid selling goods or services and/or conduct charitable collections or fundraising, unless prior written approval has been granted by the Memorial.
  • Avoid conducting any political or other demonstrations or activities that are likely to cause offence to members of the public.
  • Avoid sitting on the stairs leading up to the Anzac Memorial Building, as a mark of respect.
  • Not smoke, cigarettes or vapes.
  • Avoid consuming food or beverages.

 

The Memorial reserves the right to:

  • Exclude or remove any person from the building for any reason deemed appropriate by Memorial staff and / or Memorial security officers.
  • Inspect bags brought into the Memorial building, this may require your assistance to move or remove items from the bag to facilitate our inspection.
  • Prohibit any items it deems necessary.
  • Monitor visitor behaviour and movement via the Memorial’s closed-circuit television while inside the Memorial or in the precinct. By entering the Memorial, visitors are consenting to the recording of their image or likeness, and the use of that recording for any purpose that the Memorial considers appropriate.

 

Refusal of Entry

For the comfort and safety of all patrons, and to ensure a respectful environment, the Memorial reserves the right to:

  • Refuse entry to any persons who have previously displayed behaviour that is disruptive, disrespectful or damaging (physically or verbally) to Memorial staff or other members of the public.
  • Refuse entry to or evict any persons who do not comply with signposted notices or any reasonable direction given by Memorial staff or Memorial security officers.
  • Refuse entry to any person who attempts to bring in any restricted or prohibited items.
  • Direct any person or members of the public to leave the Memorial building or the Memorial land, or both, where it has reasonable grounds to believe that public safety is or may be endangered, or the conduct of those persons is likely to impact the contemplative nature of the site or cause offence to members of the public. This is supported by the Anzac Memorial (Building) Act 1923

 

Restricted and prohibited items

The Memorial reserves the right to restrict or prohibit specific items from entering the Memorial, including where they may be considered to pose a risk to the safety of people and property, or cause offence to members of the public including but not limited to:

  • Any animal (other than an assistance animal accredited under a State or Territory law to assist a person with a disability to alleviate the effects of disability; or that is accredited by an animal training organisation).
  • Items that could be used as a weapon or may cause harm, including sharp items such as knives and cutting tools or flammable or hazardous devices.
  • Suspicious items or items which may look like a weapon, including replicas.
  • Marking instruments that could be used to mark or deface property.
  • Illegal substances, including controlled, dangerous, or illicit drugs
  • Alcohol, food and beverages other than water
  • Political or other signage, banners, logos, or clothing that is likely to be offensive to others
  • Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)
  • Items that may be considered unnecessary for visiting the Memorial such as bike helmets and large or bulky items
  • Items that may cause public nuisance, including noise-making and amplification devices

 

Protecting the Memorial

The Anzac Memorial is designated by law as a sacred and commemorative site. Within this area, regulations are strictly enforced to protect the building and its collection. Visitors must not:

  • Sit on the stairs.
  • Use any photographic, video or audio recording equipment in areas where this has been restricted.
  • Use professional photography equipment, including flashes, without the prior approval of the Anzac Memorial.
  • Touch, or in any other way, interfere with collection objects or displays unless indicated.
  • Run, shout, or climb exhibits or use furniture for anything other than its intended use.
  • Smoke anywhere on the premises.
  • Eat or drink (including having containers of food or drink).

 

Recordings inside the Anzac Memorial for personal use and digital engagement

In areas where photography is permitted, please ensure that you:

  • Only use handheld photography equipment.
  • Do not make any recording or take any identifiable photograph of any person without the permission of that person or their legal guardian.
  • Do not sell, license, or otherwise publish, disseminate or reproduce (or permit such), whether in whole or in part, any images or recordings taken inside the Anzac Memorial for commercial purposes without the Anzac Memorial’s prior express agreement.
  • Notwithstanding the above, if you upload, publish or disseminate any user generated content taken on the Anzac Memorial premises (including, without limitation, photographs, video recordings, data recordings or sound recordings) to any digital media platform, including social media (User Generated Content), you consent to the commercial exploitation, throughout the world, of that User Generated Content by any means (including, without limitation, by re-sharing or re-posting such content) by the Trustees of the Anzac Memorial Building and our partners without compensation on a perpetual, irrevocable and worldwide basis.
