1941— The Australian 6th Division in action at Bardia, Libya.  This was Australia’s first major ground campaign of the Second World War.

1951— Seoul, South Korea, was evacuated by UN forces, for the second time in the Korean War, as Chinese and North Korean forces continued their southward advance.

1943— Buna, New Guinea, is captured by Australian and US forces after weeks of heavy fighting. Buna was the second of three vital beachheads to fall to the Allies. 

1951— A Company from 3RAR assisted in providing perimeter defence of Seoul, South Korea, as Chinese and North Korean troops advanced on the city.

1901— Proclamation of the Commonwealth of Australia.

1946— HMAS Alatna, while under tow from HMAS Quickmatch, sinks after a collision with a US merchant ship off the coast of Borneo. 

1975— Establishment of the Office of Australian War Graves, responsible for the graves of Australia's war dead in 78 countries around the world and in 76 war cemeteries within Australia.
