In recent years a dramatic reorientation has occurred in Australia’s Defence and its supporting Industry. Equally dramatic has been the advances in technology and capabilities, and the diversity in business - from multinational primes to start-ups. Our speaker will share his perspectives having served in the RAN for over 39 years and now leading one of Australia’s leading Defence Companies.
Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Australia since December 2016, Vince Di Pietro is leading LMA to achieve its vision to be Australia's partner of choice for defence, aerospace, sustainment and technology solutions. His naval career included leadership roles in aviation; squadron, shore and joint commands; professional military education; diplomacy; safety and risk management; and system safety. He holds a Master of Arts (Strategic Studies) from Deakin University, was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross in 2007 and appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 for exceptional service as Commander Fleet Arm from January 2013 - January 2016, and as Australia's Naval Attaché to the United States from June 2007 until June 2010.

The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies NSW (the Institute) is an independent, apolitical, not for profit public education association that since 1888, has been promoting debate on and understanding of defence and national security. The Institute’s library – the Ursula Davidson Library, named after its librarian from 1942 to 2005 – has been assessed to be of ‘national significance’ and holds a unique collection of defence and security literature dating from the late 18th century to today.
