1918 — Armistice signed with Austria-Hungary, leaving Germany to fight alone for the remaining days of the Great War. 

1941 — HMAS Napier and HMAS Nizam landed troops of the British 50th Division at Famagusta, Cyprus.

1942 — Lieutenant John Mould RANVR was awarded a George Cross for coolness and valour in disarming German mines.

1899— NSW Lancers became the first overseas volunteers to take part in the Boer War when they land in Capetown, South Africa.  

1917— Battle of Daur, Mesopotamia, with the 1st Australian Wireless Signal Squadron supporting the British forces.

1942— Kokoda was recaptured during the Australian advance across the Owen Stanley Ranges.

1917— Battle of Beersheba, Palestine, by the 4th and 12th Australian Light Horse Regiments against Ottoman positions. This forces a break to the Ottoman line near Gaza and opens the advance into Palestine.

1942— SGT William Kibby is posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross for his actions between 23 and 31 October during the El Alamein campaign.

1918— The Ottoman Empire surrenders, ending their involvement in the First World War. Australian troops had faced Ottoman forces in Gallipoli, Palestine and Egypt, and Mesopotamia.

1942— HMAS Warrego, in preparation for an amphibious assault on Buna by Australian and American forces, surveyed the passage between Milne Bay and Cape Nelson off New Guinea.

1914 — Ottoman warships stormed the Black Sea and shelled the Russian port of Odessa. This led to Russia declaring war on the Ottoman Empire.

1923 — Turkey became a Republic with wartime leader at Gallipoli, Mustafa Kemal, as its first President.

1950 — Battle of Chongju commences. 3RAR lost nine killed and 30 wounded in what is said to have been the hardest fight any Commonwealth troops were involved in since the war began.

1964 — Australian troops engaged Indonesian soldiers for the first time at Sungei Kesang during the Indonesian Confrontation.

1916— First Conscription Referendum. Prime Minister William Hughes proposed an extension of military training for all men aged 18 to 60 for overseas military service. This proposal was defeated, and the Australian Imperial Force remained a volunteer force.

1915— HMAS Melbourne intercepted the steamer Hamborn off New York, as part of her patrols of the North Atlantic.

1950— China entered the Korean War, having secretly moved at least 180,000 men into North Korea, surprising UN Command.

1942— PTE Percy Gratwick is posthumously awarded a Victoria Cross during the Battle of El Alamein.

1942 — HHMAS Shropshire and HMAS Arunta were engaged in the Battle of Surigao Strait (Philippines). Two Imperial Japanese Navy battleships and three destroyers were sunk, and three destroyers damaged. One US destroyer was damaged.

1950 —  Battle of Kujin/Broken Bridge, Korea. Eight Australians were killed and 22 wounded in the action.
