1918— At 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month, the guns fell silent in Europe, marking the end of the Great War. 417,000 Australians volunteered for service during the War. 62,000 were killed, 155,000 wounded and 4044 were taken as Prisoners of War.
1934— Victoria’s Shrine of Remembrance is opened in Melbourne by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.
1941— The Australian War Memorial, Australia’s national war memorial, is opened in Canberra.
